SETH ADEMA PROFILE
I grew up in the Christian Reformed Church, the children of missionaries in the Philippines. Upon graduation from Faith Academy, in Manila, I did what all good Christian Reformed boys ought to do, and enrolled at Calvin College. After a teriffic year there, I transferred to McMaster University where I am now in my fourth year of an honours BA in History. My post-graduate plans include more school, pursuing an MA in History.
My life fluctuates seasonally, the fall-to-spring period being my "study-and-gain-more-weight-than-I-should" period, while my summers are my "work-and-lose-all-the-weight-I-should-never-have-gained" period. This summer I was a labourer at Connon Nurseries, while taking a night class and longing for full-time school. At the close of this summer, I proposed to Emily DeJong, and she agreed to marry me. I met her in the sixth grade, but we met up again through all things, adding one more to the list of marriages facilitated by McMaster's Christian Reformed Campus Ministry.
Meeting at All-Things and discussing books, philosophy, theology, and leadership with Michael has been (and continues to be) among the most meaningful periods of my week. Currently, we are wading through "Who's Afraid of Post-Modernism" by James Smith, which directly addresses the theories and academic movements that I am engaged with daily in my upper level courses. This application of faith to academics will be invaluable in this year, and in my future endeavors.
