Hey! Well at this point you should know my name (it says it right there^^) but that's
like reading a book cover and knowing the whole plot. Unlike a Star Wars movie, my
name gives away very little! This is my last year at Mac and I'm very excited to move
into the next stages of my life! With 4 years of honours business and marketing
education nearly behind me, university has been quite good to me. By the end of
things I'll also have a minor in religious studies -- something I've come to enjoy
learning while here.
Aside from education at Mac I'm on the exec for the McMaster Longboarding Club - a
newly formed group of rag-tag shenanigan'ers who enjoy the wind in our hair and our
lives on the blade of a knife! Longboarding, the downhill racing component of
skateboarding is really the cheap and counter-seasonal alternative to snowboarding -
where I was first introduced to board sports.
These sort of riske, extreme sports aren't really where I started my athletic
ventures; I've been playing soccer since I could walk, played and coached badminton
in high school and I captain the intramural soccer and volleyball teams at Mac for
All Things.
As this whole page implies, I am one of the student leaders of the McMaster Christian Reformed Ministry.
This entails leading the Men's Bible Study, captaining and organizating the previously
mentioned teams and heading up our weekly dinner-speaker series, All Things.
I've had the privelege of working closely with Dr. Michael Fallon and through his
vast experiences I've learned much about relational leadership and coordination.
It's not all roses and root beer though, I've been challenged, particularly within
and by the Men's bible study. This has really forced me to dig deeper into my faith
and experience God in a way I've never done before.
As excited as I am to be entering the next saga of my life, I will truly miss the
community I've come to love and call my own in this ministry. The blessings I've
received while a part of it I won't easily forget and I am sure I'll continue to be
blessed through All Things for years to come.
I hope you read this as excitedly as a wrote it, and if you have questions or want my
job when I graduate, email me at ben.verkerk@gmail.com! Just let me know you want to
talk and we'll grab lunch or tea or a beer or whatever it is you're into.
God Bless!

That's all :)
