Hello & Welcome to the...

REC CLUB

Let's explore together...
Taking the time to make fun a fundamental part of
living & dying...

I believe that our recreational activities are one of the most powerful spaces for re~creating our relationship with being human. It's where we feel most alive, it's what we choose to do with our precious 'free time' and it's often one of the few things left for us to "do" when we reach the end of our life.

If you find yourself at a transition in your life where you're navigating your relationship with recreation, I'm so glad you're here. Let this be a first step for your journey ~ in person and online.
MEET. BREATHE. PLAY.
Join us for free recreational activities Tuesdays & Sundays year-round.
I bring together my not-for-profit & local partners to make this possible.

MEET YOUR GUIDE ON THE SIDE

What does it mean to re~create through recreation?
Hello & Welcome to Re~Creation.
My name is Jen & I'm so glad you're here.
The question above is really about how we approach being human...
Possibly my favourite topic.
My own answer?
As with all things, it has changed over time.
And will likely continue to do so.

But as of this moment?
When we listen to the regrets of the dying, it's never that they wasted their time having 'fun' or spending it on the people, places, passions, purposes, professions and past times they loved. It's often the opposite.
When we are on our deathbed, few things are still available to us. Recreation can be one of them.
But we can't enjoy what's available then, if we don't lean in & give ourselves permission to enjoy it fully now.

Instead, we may find ourselves feeling recreational activities are a waste of time because they aren't 'productive'.
Or only grieving what we can no longer 'do' and 'be' rather than focusing on what is still possible with what's left.
I've witnessed this happen in real-time with people navigating both life and death transitions.

I believe that fun is fundamental to being human ~ both as we live and as we die.
I also believe that the 'value' we attach to recreation isn't about always achieving an outcome or 'producing' something.
The intrinsic value is that doing what we love, allows us to be present with what it feels like to be fully alive.
And this will naturally change over time.

As we experience life, we may navigate transitions with our brain and body that result in recreational activities we once enjoyed no longer being available or accessible to us. As we face the inevitability of change ~ we may find that the super power of being human is that we can feel multiple emotions at once... riding the waves of gratitude & grief as they flow. This is going to happen when we die, so why not begin to understand and find ease with it before we have to?

Above all, I am dedicated to encouraging people to lean into what they love at all stages of life, including dying.
Whether that's simply making small pockets of time for your hobbies (or even just dancing in the kitchen), realising you may not be able to run anymore but walking is still possible, recognising you can find equal enjoyment in outdoor adventures as with indoor endeavours, all the way through to perhaps turning your passion into a profession or project that ripples out positive change into the world like the people on my podcast.
We all have our unique journey to navigate while we're here. I just want more people to reach the end of their life with less regret & more ease.
As always, I am constantly playing, exploring, learning and leaning into my passions ~ I intend to do so until the day I die. It is an honour to share this with you, as well as to be a guide on the side for your own journey with recreation, re~creation & what it is to be human.
